When I'm Running

As I run, my mind is not fully aware of what thoughts take shape as the miles go by. As the unconcious stream of memories and ideas invade my mind, I doubt I take note of even half of them, I rarely if ever, stop and mull over things as I pace out the distance. In the midst of my run today I thought "Hmmm…I should try to mentally record a few of the things I think about..." So, this blog entry will be filled with a random assortment of feelings, emotions, silly things, serious things, and everything in-between… It's probably going to rain - will it rain soon? Will I have to run faster than the clouds? That would be such a cool superpower, running faster than storm clouds. But I'd like to control the weather. That would be too hard. Ugh, this is hard, this hily part. Man, my calves. You feel that, calves? That's hard work there, hard work is good for you, ya know? And there goes the knee, yup, that knee is such a lame knee, why does it just decide to start throbb...

On Writing

There are not a lot of things worse than having Writer's Block. However, as I flounder in the dark, dank and deep well that is W.B., I've come to realize something. There are in fact MANY things worse than Writer's Block. i.e.* - the attack on Pearl harbor - Wookies being replaced in the Return of the Jedi by adorable, but definitely not as fierce, Ewoks - the sinking of the Titanic - thinking you had that vital ingredient for that dish you were so looking forward to making for dinner and you absolutely can't substitute it with anything else you actually have in your kitchen - both world wars - dutifully filling up your car at the gas station before work and accidentally stepping in a greasy puddle and then smelling like gaseous fumes for the rest of the day - the Soviet Union beating the U.S. in the satellite space race - the dogs dying in Where the Red Fern Grows (#sorry #spoiler) - the martyrdom of Christians in Rome in the A.D.s - WILSON!!!!!!!! - ato...

The Boy who Dreamed

I think I wrote this little nothing when I was stargazing one night, a while back. I've been recently reading up on SPaceX and Elon Musk and the little boy in this funny little story makes me think of things that we think are impossible. And yet, these dreams not so impossible after all. Enjoy :) ----- Gregory stared at the night sky, wishing on a star. He had hoped to one day travel there – beyond the moon and further. But someone at one time had told him it simply couldn’t be done. And so, he didn’t. He dreamed instead. He dreamed of the spirals of the milky way And the orbit of Saturn He dreamed about the meteor showers that lit the sky with fire And the rocky surface of Pluto. One day, an old woman noticed Gregory staring at the clouds in the sky “Boy, why do you look instead of going?”she asked, tapping her cane on the pavement “I can’t”. Gregory said simply “Just because someone said you can’t doesn’t mean it’s true.” The little woman said, a smil...

My Life in Questions

Working in a public library has so many perks. One of the biggest is the ability to laugh out the outrageous conversations that have the propensity to happen. I know there are so many like these that occur, so many worth documentation, so you might see more posts along a similar vein. Another website dedicated to the daily struggles experienced by librarians the world over, is aptly titled Librarian Problems (http://librarianproblems.com). #welcometomylife #orlackthereof ________________ Patron: Um, excuse me, do you have any army books? Me: Anything specific? Patron: Naw, it’s for my 12 year old. So he can read it. Me: “Okay....” Patron: Could you see if you could find a book about the human body? Me: Sure, we have human biology books, let me find the specific call number for you. Patron: Thanks, I just want to make sure that I’m a girl. You never know. Me: Umm…. Patron: Can you fix the computer? Me: What seems to be the problem? Patron: Well, that’s w...

Bright & Shining

_________ She reminded him of a red-breasted robin, proud but incredibly tiny. She wore her auburn hair in the style of most girls her age, which translated to wild and untameable. Her unpinned locks shielded him from seeing her face, but he blamed the southern winds coming off the coast for this inability. The salty sea air whirled around his cloak and through his hair, short cropped though it was. He sat with his family in the open Great Hall, each seated on a carved wooden throne, stoic and imposing, all assembled to greet the small child before them. He felt, rather than saw, their royalty pulsing from them like the current off the coast of Meer. His father, the brave Chancellor of Meer, Saelen Seaborn, sat silent and strong, a silver circlet adorning his short, sandy hair. His brothers, the twins, Dallon and Kallon, were characteristically beaming their bright smiles, their matching expressions full of humor and mischievousness. Skimming over them, his sea-green eyes mis...

Welcome!

Welcome to my Writing World! I'm excited to see how & where this blog goes, who knows! I'm super stoked to share my stories with you, and receive feedback if at all possible, too! My dream with this new world of writing is to be able to post little snippets  of things I'm currently working on or have created in the past.  In all honesty, I am really trying to get over my fears. So & Seriously… This is me,  taking steps towards becoming brave. Hello, World, I'm putting my work "out there" as it were! Ah! Also & Maybe... I might post songs that have inspired my writing process,  exercises that help in those blank moments when I'm staring at a wall with no ideas,  or links to articles that were encouraging.  And & Always... If you want to join in with things/processes/stuff that helps you write, then, and by all means, please do!
